RCS North Loop is a splinter system. RCS South Loop is not.

Splinter only applies to frequencies between 851 and 866MHz. So in reality all 800 systems would be configured for splinter.

If the South Zone began to use freqs below 866MHz (highly unlikely given rebanding) the system would need to be set as Splinter in the scanner's configuration. So it's a good idea to setup all Motorola 800 trunked systems as Splinter systems. It would never affect anything operating over 866MHz.

I think with the 396/996 a Splinter system is completely different than a normal one and would require you to rebuild the system if it just happened to start operating in "splinter mode".

Thank you for the correction. I have not done any real work with the North Loop yet.
