I just picked up a used BC245XLT trunk tracker II yesterday for 15 bucks. I was wondering if it will scan any trunked systems in San Diego??? I know it won't do the "RCS" system here. But it seems to do a good job on the CHP regular channels.

Not only can the BC245XLT monitor Motorola Type I, Type II, Hybrid, SMARTNET, and PRIVACY PLUS trunked systems, it can also track trunked radio systems made by GE/Ericsson which are commonly called EDACS.

It will do the RCS, but you will hear nothing but undecoded digital on talkgroups over 32000 (law enforcement).

It will also do the San Diego City system, but with practically no limitations.

That is a great deal on a 245 and you will get a lot of use out of it. Get a new battery from HRO. Program it full of SDPD and SDFD and yes it will do RCS north and south. It will handle any talkgroup that is not digital. So the rules out most the the outlying police forces. But you can monitor all fire traffic, and the mutual aid freqs, Law Air, Med Air and medics. Also it will monitor most VHF and UHF freqs. Nice score...
