Pro-97 Voice Frequency Problem, or User Error?

Post by CJK »

Considerable Frustration -

I picked up my Pro-97 after not using it after a while and am no longer able to pick up HEARTLAND. After reprogramming the FCC posted Control Frequencies and confirming that I hit them (MOT:Sys-470F 00%+) I am not seeing any voice frequencies, or TGID's with the exception of Police Dispatches in the digital 30000 range.

I may also need to mention that I work on Palomar Mountain between Morrow and Boucher Hill - where I am having difficulty.

What am I doing wrong, or is my scanner broken?

Sincere thanks in advance...

Important to program each scan bank to Motorla as well as each control frequency.  <-- Double roll

NORMAL base frequency seems to works fine for the EAST Zone.

You looking for the Inland dispatch, commands and tacs I assume?

You may not hear the regular Heartland Fire commands 1 to 5 on the East Zone if they're not being carried there (east z) via affiliation.

Other than asking what control channel you're using, I know nothing about setting up the Radio Shack scanners. Some one else will and they'll post I'm sure.

Since you're hearing coppers and not the HFD stuff you want, sounds like you're on either the north control channel or the east and it looks like you've got the scanner setup right or you wouldn't hear them.

If you are in fact looking for the HFD stuff (Cmd 1-5), being so high, you might try the south zone control channel and see if you can hit it. The north will not carry it for sure with the exception of Cmd 5 I believe.

Thanks.

I did fix it by RTXM, as it were. May seem obvious to some, but each bank needs to be set to trunking mode as well as each control frequency on this radio. Lesson learned - and, well, shared.

..and I am listening for a local fleetmap, so I am golden.

Thanks again...

CJK you will also need to set North and East Zones to splinter. You'll find how to do it in your manual. That's if you have'nt set it already. Enjoy

Got it, found it, and done - Thanks! Great info. :D

PGM-TRUNK->FUNC-3 for the PRO97

---

"Please be aware that all 800MHz frequencies used in San Diego are splinter frequencies meaning they are offset by 12.5kHz (e.g., 856.0125 is not used, instead 856.0000 is used in its place). When programming a Motorola trunked system that uses frequencies between 851 and 866MHz you MUST program the system as Splinter."
