I shot a picture of what used to be called NewsChopper 7/39 landing at Montgomery Field this afternoon.
All of the 7/39 graphics have been removed from it. They must be getting it ready for new ones.
Is the station changing its marketing name when they go digital? I noticed their website doesn't mention 7/39 anymore.

nbc 7/39 did not renew their chopper contract with corporate helicopter/ivor. to save money they are sharing with kgtv's chopper.

Re: NewsChopper 7/39
That's interesting. Thanks for the info.
The pilot still identified himself to the tower as TV 739 though. Maybe that was just habit.

Re: NewsChopper 7/39
Just a small note... the old 7/39 helicopter was over the bike race the other week.
Thanks for the info hodad200.
I been wondering if that would happen in San Diego. Lots of other TV station's been doing the same thing with sharing agreements(Chicago and Philadelphia).

Re: NewsChopper 7/39
metro has had a sharing agreement in place with kfmb/xetv/kusi for years now, KFMB pays the bigger share (thas why it's got their branding).
currently KGTV/KNSD are sharing using KGTV's leased chopper as the source.
I believe KSWB isnt in on it yet, but the landscape could change this year with cutbacks/whatnot.

Re: NewsChopper 7/39
That would explain the strange looking video from the chopper on 739 last night. KGTV transmitts news in HD, and KNSD does not. The picture looked squashed.
Re: NewsChopper 7/39
The chopper isnt in HD? Last time I checked it was 39.1 for the HDSDnative wrote:That would explain the strange looking video from the chopper on 739 last night. KGTV transmitts news in HD, and KNSD does not. The picture looked squashed.

Might be better to read these threads over on the local San Diego TV forum for DTV or HDTV stuff.
