JetNet Buys ADS-B Exchange

Aviation data specialist JetNet is remaining on the acquisition trail, extending its reach into flight information with the purchase of ADS-B Exchange, the company announced today at the NBAA Schedulers and Dispatchers Conference. Founded in 2016, ADS-B Exchange operates a network of ADS-B, Mode S, and MLAT feeders and provides real-time and historical flight data. The company aggregates some 750,000 messages per second through receivers hosted by aviation enthusiasts worldwide.

Calling the acquisition one of several anticipated, JetNet said the addition of ADS-B Exchange will enable it to expand its flight data offering with real-time information. “ADS-B Exchange was founded as the go-to resource for aviation and flight-data enthusiasts,” said Dan Streufert, president and founder of ADS-B Exchange. “Joining forces with JetNet is the perfect match as we look to meet the business needs of our users while maintaining our enthusiast roots and unfiltered data.”

ADS-B Exchange has a range of clients from MRO and airport operations to aircraft leasing, research and academic, and government services. “We’ve long admired ADS-B Exchange and know how strategic the company’s real-time data offerings are to the aviation industry,” said JetNet CEO Derek Swaim. “The ADS-B Exchange platform will bring significant value to our customers.”

Swaim further reinforced ADS-B Exchange's flight-data sharing model: “At present, we have no intentions of changing the core way ADS-B Exchange does business. JetNet is excited to offer its resources to Dan Streufert and ADS-B Exchange to grow the receiver community, extend coverage, provide customers with the same data and solutions it does today, and accelerate ADS-B Exchange's growth."

Former ADSB-Exchange feeders are moving to a new server, adsb.fi. Coverage is light right now, but hopefully more feeders will come online soon.

New Flight Tracking Site - adsb.fi - adsb.one - adsb.lol

Post by Brian »

iPhone/iPad tip:
Visit the new tracking page ( https://globe.adsb.fi ) and save the link by ‘Add to Home Screen’. It will place an icon with the other app icons. (Also handy for other sites you use a lot)
(Add to Home Screen is few lines below ‘Add to Bookmark’)

OpenADSB iOS iPhone/iPad users:
Adding it on the OpenADSB app, on the server list.
Go to Settings>Track Source> Edit and tap on ‘+’ and add…. globe.adsb.fi to the Host field.
Tap on Test Connection and everything should be set for the new server.
You can always switch ‘servers’ in the settings whenever needed. Switch back and forth with ADSBexchange or ADSB.fi or other servers/receivers.

Update from the discord group…..

________________________________________________
**A massive THANK YOU to everyone for supporting us! **

We're going to grow to be the top ADS-B tracking site there is! We need your help to do it!

We have combined efforts to bring you an API that you can use once a second as a drop in replacement for the ADSBexchange RapidAPI V2.

https://github.com/ADSB-One/api/blob/main/README.md

Terms for those that asked: https://adsb.one/data-tou

All we ask at this time is to spread the word and feed data from receivers! For now the API does not require a feeder, but if you use and don't give back - that's simply uncool. You aren't uncool, are you?

Send Data: https://github.com/adsb-one/feed

**Future Plans:** Free users get a limited number of requests per 24 hours. Feeders get an increased number of requests. App developers, researchers, etc. can contact directly for more specific requirements.

@everyone

We had planned to announce airplanes.live when it was ready! However, due to circumstances that are out of our control, we must notify the community before the site is ready to go live.

We invested months of work and planning efforts to prevent past mistakes. No one person has sole ownership of domains; the operational and organizational agreements to prevent unilateral decisions. We all ratified a commitment that each involved person shares our common goal of creating a sustainable community around flight tracking.

We settled on creating the new organization and software around airplanes.live domain. We plan to make it a home for enthusiasts and offer a set of features found on the commercial alternatives plus some new ideas. We want to make sure that community sourced data can be put to use for the greater good, for developers, for enthusiasts, and for the public.

Unfortunately, and with much disappointment, we must inform everyone that the sole owner behind adsb.fi has declined to be part of the new organization after leading us on for months. We believe that repeating the past mistakes with regard to ownership can only lead to future situations that do not benefit the community at large. We are sad to have to continue without him and still hope that he might reconsider joining the new community organization.

For now you keep feeding .fi and .one. You can also move to .one for now. The unified organization @ feed.airplanes.live will have a feeder client, image, and instructions soon. We're still paying for and funding adsb.fi until Samuli changes the DNS and removes the data from the community api and apps.

We just aren't comfortable in letting a sole individual own and control a domain because that will inevitably lead to disaster, again. The sole owner of adsb.fi chose domain control over our agreed goals and the community. A true disappointment for everyone.

Stay tuned!
