Regional Fire Authority

Post by SDnative »

NBC 7/39 is reporting that "about a dozen fire departments have been joined into the San Diego County Regional Fire Authority", but they don't give names, etc. Does anyone have this info yet?

Also, several weeks ago I noticed that East County Fire Station 19 in El Cajon has a banner over the station name saying "San Miguel Fire". Is this part of the same thing or different?

Found the info on SignOnSanDiego.com

The agencies included in the authority are De Luz Heights, Intermountain Fire and Rescue, Ocotillo Wells, Ranchita Fire and Rescue, Shelter Valley and Sunshine Summit.

As of July 1st, 2008 the East County Fire Protection District merged with the San Miguel Fire Protection District. Thats why recently R18 was running in place of T15.

Those agencies are currently split between Cal Fire dispatch and Heartland dispatch. I wonder if that will change.

In the old days like about 1983-1984 ISH the county of san diego threw up its hands and said your on your own we aint paying for support and maintenance of the county fire rigs any more. What you have is yours make it what you can and so we did most agencys got grants and built there systems out and started paying the staff. After the ceedar fire the county was caught with there pants down and said lets have a county run fire agency oops we had that before and tossed it away. Now if you were in our shoes would you want to turn all your nice equipment over to the county and say its yours? all bet not so mean while the county was putting fire money away all these years so they now have a lot of it in the bank for fire so they partnered with agencys and are bank rolling a whole lot of the new stuff since 2003 the new red engines that say san diego county are there equipment but some of the staff are paid by them some are paid by cal fire and some are paid by the local fire agency.

I believe it was 1978 or so, immediately after most of the tax base was lost to Prop 13....
