RCS east question...

Post by BrianStark »

Hi,

For those that monitor RCS east, which control frequencies do you use? Site 3 has a control frequency of 868.92500, but there also are a number of other sites, like El Centro (site 30), that has its own control frequency of 865.25000.

What I'm struggling with to understand, is how to best program my BCD-396T to monitor RCS east (for both San Diego County and Imperial County radio traffic). I live in NE Rancho Bernardo, and right now I have the site 3 control frequency programmed into my scanner. When I travel (mostly to Phoenix), I like to take my scanner with me as I drive along I-8. For those that travel the I-8 corridor, what suggestions do you have? Are there certain control frequencies that are considered "best" for San Diego County traffic, and others for Imperial County traffic?

Any advice is appreciated... it is kinda of hard to fiddle around with programming the scanner as I drive, so I want to get some advice first before I update it for the next trip...

thanks,

Brian

The best thing to do is look at the latest RCS system map.
It shows Hwy I-8 on the map.

Thanks for the response. If I understand the 2006 map correctly, monitoring the south and east simulcasts should give me enough to listen until I am near the San Diego County / Imperial County Border.

It looks like the Hendrix Peak Intellipeater site is associated with the east zone. If you are familar with the BCD-396, is it advisable to add the control channel for this repeater to the list of control channels for my east zone simulcast group? This would allow me to use one system to monitor the talkgroups I am interested in, instead of setting up two different systems in the scanner that monitor the same set of talkgroups. Actually, if this is possible, it would assist in programming my scanner for the Imperial County talk groups as well..

Depending on signal strength, once in Imperial County, I should start monitoring the El Centro Intellipeater frequency. As I move farther east, I can start to monitor Sidewinder/Felicity and then it is unclear what I should be monitoring. The 2006 RCS map you referenced shows an Intellirepeater at Winterhaven, but I don't see any mention of frequencies for that site listed either on the information here on this web site, or on radioreference.com. Does the Winterhaven site have a different name?

thanks,

Brian
