If you want to listen to fire only you can use any Radio Shack scanner that does trunking. If you want to listen to police as well you will need a Pro-96 or Pro-2096 due to PD being digital. You can also use Uniden scanners as well. I'll let the people who use those tell you which would be the best.
Uniden Scanners
Anyone know which Unidens work in Chula Vista... And if anyone knows where I can find a uniden or a motorola for around 200 let me know
There is no scanner specific to Chula Vista. If you want to listen to ALL APCO-25 digital (but unencrypted) and analog San Diego County law enforcement agencies and non-law enforcement agencies on a Uniden scanner, their current website models are:
B-BC250D (requires purchase of a separate APCO-25 decoder card)
B-BC296D
BCD396T
BCD996T
Use of a Motorola radio to listen to public safety unless you are IN public safety is highly NOT recommended. If you are in public safety, your agency's radio shop is the place to ask.
$200 will buy a used Uniden, at the absolute best. You're looking at about $400-$550 new.
