Cell Sites for La Mesa and El Cajon PD

Post by tb_chaos » Mon Jul 09, 2018 2:47 pm

I am using a Uniden BCD396XT and recently moved to La Mesa. Last night I programmed my radio using software and downloaded all the cell sites for the San Diego County - Imperial County Regional Communications System (RCS) under Radio Reference, since they don't specify which cell towers serve this area. It takes a long time to scan through all the trunking zones. I pick up La Mesa and El Cajon PD on Calixeco and South Cells loud and clear (5 bars), are these the only two trunking sites I need to have programmed for this area?

I am also listening to Heartland, loaded all the trunked cell sites as well. I want to delete any unnecessary cell sites, please advise.

Should only need the main cells.

• South Cell (covers your La Mesa/El Cajon areas)
(You should be fine just scanning this one cell only)

• East Cell & North Cell & Northeast (when traveling in those areas)
(just lock out these cells till you need them.

"The South Simulcast Cell serves the areas in the City of San Diego south of La Jolla and Mira Mesa, and the communities of Alpine, Bonita, Chula Vista, Coronado, El Cajon, Lakeside, La Mesa, Imperial Beach, National City, Rancho San Diego and the Port of San Diego."

"The East Simulcast Cell serves an area east of the South Simulcast system to the San Diego – Imperial County line, and from the US-Mexico Border north to Julian."

The South Cell should be sufficient for La Mesa, El Cajon and Heartland. Looking at the sites, Calexico and the South Cell share the same control channel which explains why you're hearing traffic on both sites :)
