San Diego Sheriff’s Department Selects Consultant for Mutual Aid Radio Systems

May, 2020

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department awarded Federal Engineering a technical support task order to analyze the San Diego mutual aid zones radio systems.

Working in conjunction with the wildland fire agencies and engineers at the county, Federal Engineering will assess the users’ needs for the north, central and east mutual aid zones. The company will analyze the VHF LMR systems in each zone. The consultant will also assess the regional microwave radio backhaul networks and recommend how to enhance backhaul connectivity to each mutual aid zones repeater site.

As the project progresses, Federal Engineering will provide the county with procurement support including development of technical specifications for inclusion in a request for proposals (RFP).

“Federal Engineering has been providing public-safety mobile radio consulting to the county for nearly a decade,” said David Brooks, communications systems manager for San Diego County. “They understand our environment and the unique needs of California’s first responders. We are pleased to have their participation in this important project and look forward to providing an improved mutual aid environment for our firefighters.”
