SDFD Dispatch Question

Post by ChrisK »

On large fires I sometimes hear the dispatchers list something like "diz not" on the list of dispatched units. Does anybody know what this is?

Are you sure it is not "HAZMAT"?

None of the other types of units have names sounding anything like what you asked.

I don't think I have ever heard "Diz not".

DIVNOT

DIVNOT means Division Notification. Or, in other words, the on duty Battalion Cheif has been notified of the incident.

I think you must mean Division Chief. Battalion chiefs are always dispatched.

I have noticed that a Division Chief usually responds if they have an active fire.

DIVNOT

This is the Division Chief. He is paged out for ALL rescues, Commercial/Apt fires, multiple alarm fires, and unusual situations. Just for info, this position is now a Deputy Chief billet.

By the way...Divnot is not supposed to be voiced over the radio just as PDS isn't. :)

PDS is often dispatched along with the other units on the radio dispatch.
