REACH medical helicopters

Post by ChrisK »

I saw a REACH medical helicopter (Reach Med 10 - N37RX) making repeated practice ILS approaches to Montgomery Field, and a landing for fuel, this morning and a second one (N45RX) heading for Sharp Memorial. They are owned by Mediplane Inc. in Santa Rosa.

Are they moving into the area?

The N37RX REACH helicopter has lettering on it listing Pioneer Memorial and El Centro Region Medical Centers, so apparently they fly out of Imperial County.

There's a photo of it here, if you are interested. It's a 2007 Eurocopter Deutschland EC135 P2+.

I also got a photo of N45LX, which is a 2000 Bell 407, but it was taken from pretty far away, so it's not very good.

Just as Mercy Air is the contracted air evac provider in San Diego County, REACH has the contract in Imperial County.

Looks like N45RX was in San Diego county on Friday also per the Mode-S logs.

Friday:
A57150 - N45RX - Mediplane Inc - 2008/12/05 12:57:50

Saturday:
A57150 - N45RX - Mediplane Inc - 2008/12/06 10:04:21
A432FF - N37RX - Mediplane Inc - 2008/12/06 12:25:30

Edit: Other Mode-S logs users.
Looks like N45RX was in Northern California this year.

N37RX flew continuous practice ILS approaches at Montgomery from about 10:15 to 11:00. They then landed for fuel and were on the ground for about 30 minutes and then did more practice approaches until at least 12:30 when I left the airport.

When aircraft do those kind of practice approaches at MYF they don't usually land, they just do a low approach to 28 Right and turn right to a downwind leg and go back to approach control, which is what this helicopter was doing. It was about 20 minutes between his approaches.
