To save on costs, don't the boxes get re-used? (As opposed to buying a whole new ambulance)

I live in Illinois where's there's a statewide P25 system (http://www.starcom21.com) that's been on-line with all of the State Police districts for a few months - It works fairly well although from my experience, a lot of the towers could use more frequencies (Pro96Com shows a lot of queued channel ...

I would imagine since it's just 0s and 1s rearranged differently, encryption of digital audio should have the same audio quality as non-encrypted digital audio ... Orange County law enforcement has been running full-time encrypted P25 for years now.

While everyone calls them "SDSO" or "SO", SDSD (San Diego Sheriff's Department) is technically correct. And yes, the 996 is the best scanner (much more flexible than the GREs or Pro x96s and future-proofed unlike the 250D/296) available for the RCS and monitoring the SO talkgroups.

168.1500 103.5 is Cleveland National Forest Law Net. BLM has a couple channels I know of - 166.3750 103.5 as Admin Net 166.7500 131.8 as Law Net I've heard fire dispatches on 166.3750 and pursuits on 166.7500 so they sound accurate. BLM will also pop up on the RCS. I've heard Borrego units talking o...

I did some searching at Radio Reference, and it appears that all of the western states have the channels we call White 1,2&3. They call them something else, but I don't know if they are "nationwide" or not. Here in Illinois, 154.2650 is IFERN , a statewide mutual aid channel ... 154.2...

Sounds like a storefront for SO/CVPD/CHP operations From an article in the UT - For instance, the Bonita Public Safety Center will be shared by the Chula Vista Police Department, the Sheriff's Department and the California Highway Patrol. Previously, the nearest shared office space was in Imperial B...

I think County Red (155.0850) is still in use with burn information in the morning. The OES White s (154.2800, 154.2650, and 154.2950) get used for firegrounds and helicopter landings. CDF and the Forest Service are all over VHF as well. I think the SO still uses 453.5000 for some SAR stuff. You'll ...

Doesn't the talkgroup have to be "set up" to "roam" before it will light up on another zone?
