Re: O.K. So where is this volcano??!!
A few days earlier, it was SDPD Tac 2, and a major earthquake in east county, with a landslide that had trapped part of a fire crew, etc. They don't bother to say anything about it being a drill on these training exercises, so you have to exercise a bit of common sense yourself and check to see if t...

Re: My current list of 'unknown' talkgroups on TRS
Talkgroup 10864 - ID'ed as '1F - Emergency'. Talkgroup 25040 - 'Plant', 'Lab', 'Security'. Seems to be a security channel at least primarily. Units affiliating with it do not seem to use any other talkgroups. Security (gate) calls lab for authorization to let delivery folks in, with things like caus...

Re: Talk Group 49200
Further info on group 49200, the users on this channel share the following other talkgroup usage: SDPD North, South, Midcity, East, Central, NCityWest, Inquiry, Gangs, SWAT 1, 'PEO Dispatch' (which I doubt IS PEO Dispatch, given very very low usage. Probably it's really another 'gang', 'robbery', et...

Re: CDF modulation?
'Wide FM' as in, regular old NFM. 'Narrow FM' now means 6.25 KHz channel spacing.
Wide FM to your scanner is FM Broadcast/Non-Digital TV Audio, 75 KHz deviation.

Re: Emergency Alert
Sorry, no more scanner listening to TV. The new digital over the air TV is, naturally, a new, different digital modulation, not receivable by scanners. For that matter, no more using the old Icom 'TV capable' scanners to watch TV, either, except for ham TV and maybe point to point video links.

Re: Digital Transition
To make it receive digital transmissions, you do what you do to 'reenable that band that isn't in the scanner', as so many seem to think is possible... You smash the scanner with a sledgehammer, and buy one that DOES have the features you want. Digital is a whole different world from analo...

Re: Digital Transition
The Pro-96 IS a digital capable scanner. If you mean 'encrypted' instead of digital, nothing whatsoever will ever let you monitor encrypted signals, even if it were legal, which it isn't in the USA. What can you use it for? The many NON encrypted signals out there. Military Air (with use of Win96 to...

Re: Talk group patching
If you have ignore status bit set correctly, then patching won't affect your listening. If it IS stopping you hearing, then you should check to be sure you have it set to 'ignore'.

Talk Group 49200
I've been getting some hits on group 49200, and the unit numbers that hit it look to be PD. This is an unknown channel, so it might be interesting to listen to and see if you can figure out what it is... I've had 64 hits since the 19th, off and on, and there's also been some very light (1 or 2) hits...
