Small update, as the years pass, and it's become completely impossible to find even used replacement pagers using the obsolete GOLAY encoding (despite that the firefighters like it as very reliable), a few POCSAG pagers are beginning to appear on 154.085 along with the reputed 5,000 GOLAY pagers alr...

First, turn off your caps lock key. Preferably, rip it off your keyboard. How simple any modern scanner is to program depends on how willing you are to read the directions carefully, and learn how to do it. It's not simple anymore, because the radio systems we listen to aren't simple anymore. The re...

Command Early Warning Net (San Diego)
CEWN system for San Diego is found on: 328.200 - SOPA SUBAREA EAST ADMIN Net Control (AM) This is the sole radio net monitored by ships in port at anchor for warnings or notifications of incoming message traffic at the shore communications station for them. Site number change
City of San Diego trunk system switched radio consoles and site number this morning, for whatever reason.
Used to report as being Site 0 on air, now reports Site 1 on air. Otherwise, same frequencies.

To update a bit, someone posted (brain flameout as to where) that there are now 10 'event channels', and trunker is beginning to show some of them, as of very recently. So far, I've only heard actual event traffic on the first two, but units are showing up affiliating on others, now, probably by acc...

Where I said 'they', it's 'they'. I don't 'wander', I sit here at home, haven't moved out of it in months. Literally. Yes, if it wasn't clear, I'm one of the users of the system, though rarely heard, a backup monitor since I have a lot of scanners running (usually 4 or 5) and am up at all hours of t...

As Brandon said, it's a group of freelance news stringers. They wander the county, mostly in the late evening/early morning hours when the TV Stations' crews are snug in bed, taping/photographing 'hot' news as it occurs. Generally, there'll be one person acting as a 'dispatcher' who's at home, monit...
